No Mountain High Enough

Get Involved
I was way into middle age before I learned a very important lesson. Oh no, it wasn’t the importance of flossing your teeth daily (which, by the way, is important)! It was the importance of giving back. Life is such a learning experience. Especially when you are thrown a curve ball. Well I was use to curve balls since my life pretty much dealt with constant change but this was one curve ball I never expected.

In 1996, the phone call I received from Lance’ neighbor – a doctor and a good friend – telling me Lance has been diagnosed with cancer. My whole world, the very foundation of my soul, in that one moment, everything just crumbled.

After 3 opinions of Lance’s cancer and 3 months of treatment, Lance was clear of cancer.. When Lance phones me to tell he was starting a foundation to help cancer patients, survivors and caregivers, I told him I was so proud that he didn’t turn his back on the disease, instead embraced the setback in his life and would definitely flourish in more ways than one. After I hung up the phone, I realized he taught me something. The importance of giving back. The Lance Armstrong Foundation was founded. LIVESTRONG is a challenge; it’s a philosophy, a community.

Giving back is more gratifying than a good piece of coconut pie, breaking that 10K goal, or watching your favorite television program. Will you think about ways to get involved?

May I suggest a few:
